LOVE- Advent Week 3
Love.
This week has been the hardest for me to really put my thoughts down on the theme of love. There are so many ways to write about love. We can see that "love came down" in the form of a baby boy. We can see that Joseph loved Mary and trusted God with that love in the darkest of times. We can see that Mary loved God and trusted God as shown in her response to the life changing role she was to assume.
Love is a word we overuse. One can say that they "love" Christmas, they "love" looking at Christmas lights, "love" giving gifts, "love" Christmas baking... the list goes on. We "love" lots of things, but do we LOVE?
Luke 2:1-7 describes the arrival of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. They arrive and there is no room to stay and so a nice Inn Keeper offers them the livestock stable. Most of you reading this know the story. Jesus is born in that stable, among the smelly animals, the filth and the dirt. The Son of God born in utter disgust. For God to come in human form was incredible enough, but for Him to come in such a humble way shows us the lengths he took to connect with all of humanity.
Christ didn't come for just the privileged, the kings of the world, the rich or high up. He came for all. He came to display the love of the Father for his creation.
Love incarnate. If you've ever wondered what love looks like, it's this. God Almighty, coming down to our filthy world, to live and then to die for all of humanity's sin.
Our Advent devotional asks, "how does it make you feel knowing God loves you so much?" and "How can we show God's love to others?"
How DOES it make you feel to know that God loves you?
Let it sink in this Christmas season that the God of the universe LOVES YOU. He does! He loves you, He even likes you. He is for you and I hope and pray that knowing that He loves you allows you to love others better.
Jesus Christ is proof that God loves us.
May you understand and feel that all the more this season.
