Define Your Reality - Day 16
“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” -Matthew 6:9-13
There is so much power in prayer. Jesus taught that we are to be specific in our prayers. He even taught us how we are to pray. Today, I would like to walk you through our Savior’s call to prayer. In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus tells us, in his own words, “Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.'” We begin with acknowledging the greatness of God. We give Him the praise and glory that He so richly deserves. Right now, think of two words that describe God to you. Now, tell Him why you have chosen those words. Give Him praise for how truly amazing He is. Thank Him for His unending love and for sending His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, just for you.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Praying is about abiding in the presence and love of God. Growing in intimacy with our Savior and Creator. We don’t pray simply to change the heart of God; instead, we pray that He might change our hearts. Now ask God what He might want to do in your life personally. Listen for His voice to hear the truth He longs to speak to our hearts. What is He saying to you?
“Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” As we begin seeking God’s will and He has aligned our hearts with His own we can begin to pray for what we need. We are so blessed to be able to a look at our lives and then share our needs with our Lord. He tells us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. What are your deepest needs right now? What are you struggling with? Take a few moments and lay it at His feet…
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” God wants to protect every area of our lives, not just for our sake but also for His glory. We are a reflection of His Person and others will see God through our lives of obedience and service. He is ready to lead us in a way that protects us, but we must trust His lead. We ask God for His protection and guidance in our lives. We look to Him for hope and strength. 2 Corinthians 16:9 says, “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” God is always ready and willing to come to our aid, we simply have to call. Let’s pray.
