Define Your Reality - Day 9
***This post was part of a Define Your Reality Devotional Series during the 30 Days of Prayer for Family Life Church in March of 2020. It was written by Jason Laird.***
Psalm 46:10 says,
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Often times when we enter into prayer, we immediately start talking at God. Giving him our praise, our thanks, our requests, and even complaints, which are all good things. Today, however, I want to encourage you with these same words that the Psalmist wrote here in Psalm 46, to simply be still. Don’t say a word and just sit in His presence.
This is honestly one of the hardest things that I have learned to do, and still struggle with, because I have always thought that I have to do something. That I have to read the word, which we do, and I have to pray, or “talk with God,” which is true as well. But I have never been taught, until a few years ago, how to just sit in His presence and listen.
Take a few minutes this morning and simply sit and listen. One thing that has helped me to learn how to do this is to focus on my breath. To sit and focus on the breath that comes in and exits my lungs. This has been extremely helpful for me because each and every breath that you and I get to take is a gift from God, and when we focus on that breath, we are positioned to listen to Him!
So be still, sit and listen, and know that He alone is God.
Be Consumed,
Jason Laird
