Define Your Reality - Day 18
***This post was part of a Define Your Reality Devotional Series during the 30 Days of Prayer for Family Life Church in March of 2020. It was written by Shaina Weisgerber.***
John 11:35
“Jesus wept.”
Knowing Jesus cried tears helps me today. If there were ever a person to have endless amounts of encouragement, hope and truth come from his mouth, it was him. Yet, he wept. His humanity allows me to know he understands me.
It is ok to weep. It is ok to be sad. It is ok to wonder why. It is ok to not understand.
During these uncertain times (and all times really) we proclaim God’s goodness, faithfulness, stability and sustaining grace. We also fully feel what we feel; whether that is uncertainty, anxiousness, sadness, loss, frustration, confusion, and even anger.
Romans 8:26-27
“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
When we do not have the words to articulate our prayers, our own deep emotions, we can know that the Spirit is interceding for us.
Let the tears flow. Let the feelings you feel be fully felt. We can have faith, know the truth, proclaim the promises and still shed a tear. So we weep, we cry, we scream and shout, knowing that God hears us. The Spirit intercedes for us. We can bring our mess to the Father and he knows what to do with it.
The biggest thing we remember is that we come to HIM with it ALL. Let us not act on our feelings, but, may our feelings DRAW US NEARER TO THE FATHER. We let him have our thoughts, feelings and emotions as we surrender our will to His own.
Romans 8:28
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.”
Remember Christ is trustworthy and understands your pains. He can meet you in the space that feels so hard, dark and uncertain. He will lead you to the Father, who has all things in His hands. Let us remember that prayer looks like letting your emotions out, within the safety of His arms, the protection of his power and the hope of his promises. When we do not have the words, He does and He knows. Be full of HOPE today!
Love you all.
