Define Your Reality - Day 19
***This post was part of a Define Your Reality Devotional Series during the 30 Days of Prayer for Family Life Church in March of 2020. It was written by Jason Laird.***
John 15:13-15 says...
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down ones life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
Jesus calls us His friends. What a powerful truth. We are “friends of God.” But what does it mean to be a friend?
First, friends are for each other. God is for for us, not against us. We are for God, not against him any longer. He is on our side and we are on His. So let’s live like it.
Second, friendship involves struggle, loss, and tension at different moments. Real friends tell us what we don’t want to hear but what we need to hear. The speak truth and honesty into us, even if it hurts. Friendship isn’t always easy. And with God sometimes our friendship involves various trials, hard journeys, and dangerous adventures. But let’s live into that friendship that God is for us and with us.
Third, friendship is all about relationship, not function or profit. We are friends with people because of who they are, not what they can do for us. The same is true for God. He called us friends when we had nothing to offer Him. We call him friend because of who He is.
Friends are in it for the long haul, and Jesus called is a his friends. Live into that truth today and seek ways to obey, to journey into this unknown, pray and listen, and believe that He alone is good.
Praying for you and with you all today.
Much Love,
Jason Laird.
